The City of Cathedral City is alerting residents, business owners, and commuters that lane closures are in place on East Palm Canyon Drive near the Cathedral City Auto Center as construction of a new median and left-turn pocket gets underway for the Broadway Cove housing project.
Shea Homes' contractor is performing the work, which began Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and is expected to continue through approximately Sunday, September 14. Work will take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the duration of the project.
When and Where
What Drivers Can Expect
The #1 (inside) lanes will be closed in both the eastbound and westbound directions of East Palm Canyon Drive throughout the project. Drivers should plan for reduced capacity and possible delays through this stretch.
Good News for Drivers and Local Businesses
Even with the #1 lanes closed, this project has been designed to keep traffic moving and businesses accessible. Two straight-through lanes will remain open in both directions, all turn pockets will remain open, and all driveways to the businesses along the corridor will remain fully accessible throughout the project.
Building for a New Neighborhood
The new median and left-turn pocket are being built to safely serve the future Broadway Cove housing development, part of Cathedral City's continued residential growth along the East Palm Canyon Drive corridor.
The City appreciates the patience and cooperation of drivers and businesses as this work moves forward.
