This is the latest edition of the Green Deal Funding Alert, a monthly newsletter that keeps you informed about funding opportunities and initiatives that support sustainable development and the transition to climate neutrality. This month's special edition focuses on the topic of water, reflecting on the Water Resilience Forum, highlighting funding calls for projects in Mediterranean, Baltic-North Sea, Danube-Black Sea, and Atlantic-Arctic Sea regions as well as presenting opportunity to join EU community for Mission Ocean and Waters.
Water Resilience Forum
Following the adoption of the European Water Resilience Strategy, and as a part of the drafting process for the Committee of Regions' opinion "Turning the tide - A local and regional roadmap for water resilience", the first Water Resilience Forum took place on 8 December 2025.
It was jointly organised by the European Commission, the Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Committee of the Regions (CoR), with the participation of Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika Roswall, the President of the CoR, Kata Tüttő, and the President of the EESC, Séamus Boland.
Discussions focused on key challenges and opportunities in financing, industrial transformation, digital innovation, water education, and urban resilience. The forum highlighted the crucial role of local communities and subnational authorities in building water resilience across Europe

1. SoS2LearnDBS Open Call: Funding for Danube River Basin or Black Sea region
Are you based in the Danube River Basin or Black Sea regions and looking for funding for your grassroot project?
SoS2LearnDBS has opened a call for Community-Led Actions (CLA) under the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters", focusing on the objectives for Danube River Basin and Black Sea regions. The call supports initiatives such as marine restoration, plastic pollution reduction and sustainable fisheries. Projects must be implemented by small consortia of regional partners, including local and regional authorities, NGOs, and research institutes. The available funding per project ranges from €200.000 up to €400.000 (tier 1) and €500.000 up to €1.000.000 (tier 2), with a total of €7 million available.
Deadline: 30 March 2026 (17:00 CET)

2. TASC-RestoreMed Open Calls: Funding for Mediterranean basin region
Are you looking for ways to scale up your projects supporting the EU Ocean and Waters Mission objectives for the Mediterranean basin?
A total of €9 million is available through TASC-RestoreMed Open Calls for Community-Led Actions and Transition Agendas Development (TAD). The first focuses on empowering local communities to take ambitious marine restoration action, aiming for projects that will last up to 24 months. The second opportunity offers support for designing strategic roadmaps for sustainable local governance, with the project duration set to maximum 12 months. In addition to funding (€200,000 - €1.4 million for CLA and up to €100,000 per TAD project), technical assistance and knowledge exchange opportunities will be provided for the selected initiatives.

3. BlueActionAA Open Call: Funding for Atlantic and Arctic region
Would you like to pilot a project that can support achievement of one of the EU Mission on Ocean and Waters objectives in the Atlantic and Arctic region?
BlueActionAA Community-Led Pilot Action Call has been opened, aiming to mobilising citizens to take action and protect the marine and freshwater ecosystems in the region. Eligible actors include regional and local authorities, NGOs, and CSOs, with a total budget of €7 million, and individual grants ranging from €200,000 to €2 million per project. The expected duration of the selected initiatives ranges between 6 and 24 months. Technical assistance and capacity-building resources will also be provided to ensure effective implementation and long-term positive impacts.

4. BlueActionBANOS Open Calls: Funding for Baltic and North Sea regions
Are you looking for support to implement your project or develop an action plan for sustainable transition in the Baltic and North Sea region?
The BlueActionBANOS calls for Community-Led Actions and Transition Agendas Development are now open to advance the objectives of the EU Mission on Ocean and Waters in the region. The Community-led projects implemented by consortia of 2 to 12, and lasting up to 24 months, can receive grants ranging from €200,000 to €2 million for initiatives about marine restoration and blue economy. Local transition roadmaps, developed by 1 to 3 organization, can receive up to €100,000, with the programme support for maximum 18 months. Applicants can benefit from various support services.

5. The EU Blue Parks Community: Call for members
Are you interested in contributing more to protection and restoration of marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity?
As a part of the EU Mission on Ocean and Waters, organisations focusing on the EU marine areas are invited to join the EU Blue Parks Community. Members can benefit from exchanges of good practices, access to funding opportunities and improved governance, helping to bridge the knowledge gap and advance collective efforts in marine protection and restoration. Additionally, members are invited to participate in workshops and receive technical assistance.
