WASHINGTON, D.C. - According to a New York Times report, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), petitioned the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to rescind authorization for COVID-19 vaccinations in May 2021, six months after the life-saving vaccines were rolled out.
Dr. Robert Steinbrook, director of Public Citizen's Health Research Group, released the following statement:
"Although Robert F. Kennedy, Jr is a clear and present danger to the nation's healthfor many reasons, the May 2021 petition to rescind authorization for COVID-19 vaccinations and stop the further approval of the vaccines is beyond shocking.
"By August 2021, the number of deaths prevented in 141 countries by the global COVID-19 vaccination campaign was 2.36 million, including about 430,000 lives saved in the United States, according to a 2023 National Bureau of Economic Research study. The campaign saved roughly 123,000 lives each week.
"The revelations about Kennedy's efforts to block COVID-19 vaccinations should completely disqualify him from further consideration to be the Secretary of HHS. The U.S. Senate must reject his nomination."
