Senator Murray Votes to End War in Iran and Calls Out Trump’s Broken Promises

Washington, D.C. - Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement after voting for a War Powers Resolution to end Donald Trump's reckless and illegal war against Iran:

"For the fourth time, I voted to put an end to Trump's reckless war of choice in Iran. Since the beginning, Trump has had no strategy and no endgame-meanwhile American lives have been lost, hundreds of servicemembers have been injured, and thousands are in harm's way. Our country does not want more Americans killed because of a reckless President that a Republican Congress refuses to rein in. While Republicans turn a blind eye as Trump spends billions on bombs, prices across the board-groceries, health care, and gas-are skyrocketing. President Trump promised to deliver Americans: 'lower prices' and 'no new wars.' When it comes to broken promises-it does not get more blatant than that. I will continue to speak out against this war, and I will keep pushing my Republican colleagues to come to their senses to put an end to this."

Introduced by U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), this is the fourth War Powers Resolution Democrats have brought to the Senate floor since the war began.
