UPCOMING EVENTS

Nuestra Palabra and the Librotraficantes are proud to organize the Texas book for the powerful memoir DETAINED by D. Esperanza and Gerardo Ivan Morales. During the first Trump Administration, D. Esperanza was only a teenager when he was detained at the Immigration Detention Center in Tornillo, Texas, just outside of El Paso. He snuck in a notebook to tell his story. This May, that story becomes the book DETAINED with co-writer Gerardo Iván Morales.

This is a powerful work that tells the unvarnished truth about the plight of many community members. In this political climate where some families are pushed into the shadows, we must stand up for them, for freedom of speech, for intellectual freedom, for human rights. We must inspire everyone to tell their story.

Nuestra Palabra is organizing launch events for the book in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and El Paso. Each city will influence each stop and feature speakers and stories from their community.

The evening will be hosted by NP founder and director Professor Tony Diaz, El Librotraficante. Poet Tammy Gomez will read from her work.

Book sales are handled by Nuestra Palabra. They will be available on-site for purchase. Get your copy for your family library and get Gerardo Iván Morales to sign it. He befriended D. Esparanza when he served as one of the teachers in Tornillo, Texas, and they struck up a lifelong friendship that helped D. Esparanza navigate the turmoil he faced.

Purchase extra copies to donate to the community and under ground libraries Nuestra Palabra and the Librotraficantes are organizing. If someone you know misses the event, tell them to order their copy at www.NuestraPalabra.org.
