Statement at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly

On 26 September 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin addressed the General Debates of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In his statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs underscored the importance of strengthening peace and stability, advancing multilateralism, and reinforcing the central role of the United Nations in addressing global challenges. In this context, he highlighted the latest initiative of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon on the International Decade of Strengthening of Peace for Future Generations, 2027-2036. In this context, it was noted that in 2027, Tajikistan, in cooperation with the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the UN Youth Office, other relevant UN agencies and international partners, will host a high-level international Сonference dedicated to the launch of the International Decade of Strengthening of Peace for Future Generations.

He also devoted particular attention to the global water agenda, preparations for the 2028 United Nations Water Conference in Dushanbe, glacier preservation, climate change, the development and governance of artificial intelligence, efforts to counter terrorism and extremism, and the strengthening of security. The Minister reaffirmed Tajikistan's principled position in support of the peaceful settlement of conflicts, the promotion of sustainable socio-economic development, and the need for comprehensive reform of the United Nations system.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs elaborated on Tajikistan's active engagement in the work of the United Nations and the contribution of its international initiatives to addressing global challenges. It was noted that, in recent years, Tajikistan has advanced a number of international initiatives within the United Nations in the areas of water and sustainable development, climate change and glaciers' preservation, peace and international cooperation, as well as the prevention of emerging threats. He further underscored that, through these initiatives, Tajikistan continues to contribute to strengthening international solidarity, advancing multilateral cooperation, and promoting concerted practical action to address challenges affecting the international community.
