On September 26, in New York, within the framework of the 80th Session of the UNGA, a side event entitled "Road to the UN Biodiversity Conference COP17" was held, organized at the initiative of Armenia and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan participated and delivered remarks at the event. As a keynote speaker, Minister of Environment of Armenia Hambardzum Matevosyan briefed on the vision of Armenia for the organization of COP17.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan touched upon the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity to be held in Armenia in 2026, emphasizing its pivotal role as the first global review of commitments under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
In his remarks, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia noted that COP17 is intended to address the resource mobilization and the establishment of the permanent financial mechanism of the Convention, as well as to ensure the full inclusion of indigenous peoples and local communities in biodiversity-related decision-making processes.
Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan reiterated the commitment of Armenia to fostering constructive dialogue and ensuring the organization of an inclusive Conference. The recent initiatives across various international fora were touched upon, emphasizing their underlying objective to amplify the voices of all stakeholders.
