WASHINGTON--Arkansas student Hunter Coy traded in the halls of Mountain Home High School Career Academies for the corridors of Congress, where he spent the last several months serving as a U.S. Senate Page.

Coy and his fellow Pages attended academic class sessions beginning at 6:00 a.m. before reporting to work one hour before the Senate convened on weekdays. They helped ready the chamber for daily business by distributing materials to senators' desks, assisting staff in the cloakrooms and, when the lawmaking body was in session, sitting near the dais waiting to aid members delivering remarks or casting votes.

"I am incredibly grateful to Senator Boozman for the opportunity to serve as a Senate Page this semester. From my time on the Senate floor, I had the chance to gain a new perspective on our legislative process and see senators from both parties working together every day to advocate for their constituents. The program was rigorous and made me a stronger student while allowing me to gain valuable skills and form lasting friendships. I was sincerely honored to be selected to represent our great state and know that the skills I gained during my time as a Page will be invaluable to my future," Coy said.

Coy earned his appointment to the position from Senator John Boozman (R-AR).

"Hunter represented Arkansas incredibly well during his time as a Senate Page. He handled his responsibilities with maturity and professionalism while gaining valuable insight into the legislative process. I am confident this experience will encourage him to continue pursuing his passion for public service and leadership. Our entire state can be proud of his accomplishments," Boozman said.

Coy is involved in various clubs and organizations at Mountain Home High School Career Academies, including serving as Student Council Vice President and Key Club President. In addition, he is a member of the Quiz Bowl Team as well as the Yearbook and Journalism Clubs. He also competes on the varsity track team and is completing a service project with the Clinton Presidential Library.

During his time in our nation's capital, Hunter attended President Trump's Veterans Day address at Arlington National Cemetery, observed the National Christmas Tree Lighting at the White House and visited Old Town Alexandria and Jamestown, Virginia.

He is the son of Randy and Stacie Coy.

The Senate Page program started in 1829 when Senator Daniel Webster appointed the first Senate Page. Today, the program is a unique, highly selective opportunity for high school juniors with a strong academic standing to learn firsthand about the institution often referred to as "the world's greatest deliberative body."
