Nashville Farmers' Market Fresh Bucks Program Offers Up to $100 Match of SNAP Dollars Spent at Market on Fresh Food

The Nashville Farmers' Market Fresh Bucks program will match spending up to $100 for all customers using their Electronic Benefits Transfer(EBT) card to purchase fresh food. When a shopper spends $100 on fresh food at the market using their nutrition assistance benefits, the market will offer an additional $100 in tokens to improve affordability to fresh, nutritional food.

The matching funds are made possible through a grant with the Tennessee Department of Health, and the funds will be available for the next three years.

"As the federal government prepares to abandon its responsibility to Americans just trying to put food on the table, we're once again demonstrating that Metro is ready to help. Fresh Bucks demonstrates how Nashville helps and is another key part of our much bigger affordability agenda," Mayor Freddie O'Connell said. "This program makes a dollar go further at the Nashville Farmers' Market, where it's easy to get fresh fruits and vegetables, good meat, milk, and eggs."

Shoppers can use their EBT card to shop at the participating booths and then bring their EBT receipt to the info booth 173 in the farm shed to receive Fresh Bucks tokens equal to the amount spent. The reimbursement booth is typically open on Saturdays and Sundays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Nashville Farmers' Market Executive Director Darrell Lane added, "Not only does this program help all our customers get more value for their money, but by doubling customer purchases at our farms' booths, the program adds additional revenue to our small, local farmers who are dedicated to keeping Nashville fed."

Participating vendors include Smiley's Farm, Plano Produce, Hext Quality Meat, and Hancock Family Farms.
