Marin County - Caltrans is scheduled to close the Northbound US-101 off ramp to Manuel T. Freitas Parkway in San Rafael to construct the island and complete grind and paving on the east side of Freitas Parkway as well as shifting the temporary barrier from Monday, June 2 through Friday, June 5 between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next mornings.
This work is necessary as Caltrans inches closer to opening the roundabout at the intersection of Redwood Highway and Civic Center Drive tentatively scheduled for Monday, June 8. To facilitate Stage 4 construction, left-turn access from the west side to the east side of Freitas Parkway toward the roundabout will be temporarily closed. The access is expected to reopen in mid-June.

Stage 3 construction continues for the project as the intersection of Civic Center Drive/Redwood Highway will continue to be closed until the opening of the roundabout. Stage 3 includes the roundabout construction on the east side. There will be a new bus stop constructed as well as a northbound slip on-ramp.
The modern roundabout is an intersection with a circular configuration that safely and efficiently moves traffic. Major roundabout projects are being built in other North Bay counties like Sonoma and Napa in recent years.
Roundabouts feature channelized, curved approaches that reduce vehicle speed, entry yield control that gives right-of way to circulating traffic, and counterclockwise flow around a central island that minimizes conflict points.
The net result of lower speeds and reduced conflicts at roundabouts is an environment where collisions that cause injury or fatality are substantially reduced. - Courtesy of the Federal Highway Administration
All work is dependent on weather and other factors.
