Texas Tunes: Jazzmeia Horn

Come spend an evening with Jazz Vocalist Jazzmeia Horn as she takes to the Huffines Performance Hall stage, for a Texas Tunes performance, Saturday, Feb. 7, 8 p.m., at Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.

Named by her jazz loving grandmother, Horn was born in Dallas and grew up in a close church-going family singing gospel music. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and enrolled at The School of Jazz at The New School in New York City.

Horn won the 2013 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and the 2015 Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Competition and, shortly after, was signed by Concord Records. In 2017, she released her debut album, A Social Call, which was nominated for a Grammy Award.

In 2019, she released Love and Liberation, which also received a Grammy nomination. In 2020, she published her book, Strive From Within: The Jazzmeia Horn Approach, while recording her big band album, Dear Love. It is an album of encouragement through poetry and spoken word, addressing the aspects of her community, her love and herself, was released in 2021. She released her latest album, Messages, in 2024.

Tickets are $35 and $25. Tickets can be purchased at lewisvillegrand.com/tix. Lewisville residents may buy select $20 tickets in person with proof of residency at The Grand during normal business hours. Sales tax and ticket fees are included in the price.

The Texas Tunes concert series features performers from music halls and festivals throughout the state who present great music in a variety of genres, but all with that unique Texas flair that has made the state a hotbed for fans of live music.

The Grand is Lewisville's home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.

To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Please be aware that there is heavy road construction at the Main Street interchange with I-35E that will cause delays.
