Iowa City Senior Center releases March–April 2026 program guide

The Iowa City Senior Center (ICSC) is pleased to announce the release of its March-April 2026 Program Guide, now available to the public. Registration is open for all classes and events, and you can sign up online at icgov.org/senior/registration or by calling 319-356-5220.

This season's programming reflects the Senior Center's mission to enhance the quality of life for older adults by supporting wellness, social connections, community engagement, and lifelong learning. Anyone age 50+ is invited to become an ICSC member, and numerous programs are also open to all ages and do not require membership.

The March-April 2026 guide features a diverse mix of arts, fitness, technology, outdoor recreation, humanities, and enrichment programs. Highlights include several special events and new opportunities for community engagement:

  • 2026 Downtown March Gallery Walk at ICSC

    • 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 6: Hosted in the Historic Post Office Gallery at the Iowa City Senior Center, this exhibition showcases the work of 14 local artists who meet weekly to create art together. The show will remain on display throughout March and April.
  • ICSC Welcome Social: A Quarterly New Member Gathering

    • Noon Wednesday, March 11: A warm welcome for new members, featuring lunch, information about ICSC programs and services, and a guided tour of the building. Senior Center membership is required.
  • Fireside Chats with Chief Lyon: Conversations on Community Safety

    • 1-2 p.m. Thursday, March 26 and April 16: A new monthly conversation series with Iowa City Fire Chief Scott Lyon, offering community members a chance to learn about safety topics and ask questions in an informal setting.
  • Poetry in Color: A Creative Writing Workshop

    • 10-11:30 a.m. Saturdays, March 28 - May 16: A creative writing class led by Maya Arthur, a poetry student at the Iowa Writers' Workshop, exploring poetry through the lens of color, using vibrant imagery and sensory language to craft original poems.
  • Speed Friendshipping Event

    • 3-4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2: Open to all ages, this fun social event invites participants to make new connections through a series of brief conversations.
  • Frisbee Fest

    • 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, City Park (Shelter #6): In collaboration with the University of Iowa Women's Ultimate Frisbee Club, participants can learn fun ways to enjoy frisbee activities. Snacks and custom ICSC frisbees will be provided.
  • Swing Into Spring! Silver Swing Dance

    • 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29: Celebrate the season with live big band music by the Silver Swing Band. The evening begins with swing dance demonstrations and lessons from the Iowa City Swing Dance group at 5:30 pm, followed by open dancing from 6-8 p.m.
