On 11 December, during the African Energy Efficiency Conference, the Mission of China to the African Union jointly held the Symposium on Africa Energy Interconnection and China-Africa Energy Cooperation with the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and the African Energy Commission (AFREC). Amb. Jiang Feng, Ms. Samantha Graham-Maré, Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy of South Africa, Dr. Martin Ndayizeye, Permanent Secretary of Mineral Resources, Energy, Industry, Trade and Tourism of Burundi, Mr. Li Baosen, Deputy Secretary-General of GEIDCO, Mr. Rashid Ali Abdallah, the Executive Director of AFREC, and the representatives from the African Union organs, Chinese and African enterprises attended the symposium.
In his speech, Ambassador Jiang emphasized that energy offers significant support for Africa's sustainable development. China has the largest and most complete renewable energy system worldwide. Based on China's own comprehensive advantages and the needs of African continent, the Chinese side is willing to work with the African Union and African countries to implement the relevant outcomes of FOCAC Beijing Summit and expand new spaces for green development cooperation, injecting new momentum into Africa's modernization process.
