In recognition of Financial Literacy Month, the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development (MDHEWD) is highlighting free, practical resources to help Missourians make informed financial decisions as they plan for education, training, and career advancement.

MDHEWD offers financial literacy assistance across the state through Missouri Job Centers and Journey to College resources, providing FAFSA support, financial aid guidance, budgeting tools, workshops, and one-on-one help for students, families, and job seekers at no cost.

"Thoughtful financial planning and a clear understanding of education and training costs helps students and families compare options, avoid unnecessary debt, and move confidently from the classroom to a quality career," said Dr. Bennett Boggs, Commissioner of the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development. "Throughout Financial Literacy Month and beyond, the department is committed to providing clear, no-cost guidance to help Missourians budget wisely, secure aid, and plan for long-term success."

The following free resources are available statewide:

  • Missouri Job Centers : Offers job seekers in-person support, including workshops and referrals that reinforce financial literacy alongside career services
  • Journey to College : Provides step-by-step information on filing the FAFSA, state and federal financial aid offers, and managing money while in school
  • Publications Library : Highlights resources and materials that cover the basics of budgeting, borrowing, and paying for college
  • Support for Schools : Specialized assistance for counselors, teachers, and career access professionals, including free publications, classroom presentations, and one-on-one support from the MDHEWD Outreach team to help students evaluate postsecondary options and costs

"Whether pursuing a certificate, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or workforce training, these financial literacy resources and tools help Missourians make confident, well-informed decisions about life after high school," said Alison Notter, Director of Outreach for the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development. "We invite high school counselors and college access professionals to register as Journey to College Site Coordinators and gain access to support services throughout the year, like event assistance, scheduled presentations, and free publications and resources for learners and workers."

MDHEWD also directs Missourians to the Missouri Treasurer's Financial Literacy Portal, which offers additional tools designed to build strong financial habits at every stage of life.

Throughout April, MDHEWD will share tips and resources on its social media channels to help students, families, and job seekers make confident financial decisions.
