The Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis attended today, Tuesday 11 November 2025, which is the day of celebration of the Patron Saint of Kastoria Saint Minas, as representative of the President of the Government Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the festivities for the 113thanniversary of the city's liberation from the Turkish yoke.

There he was received by the Mayor of Kastoria Ioannis Korentsidis, while the doxology was officiated by His Reverence the Metropolitan Bishop of Alexandroupoli Mr Anthimosand His co-officiators, the Most Beloved of God Bishop of Tanagra Mr Apostolosand His Reverence the Metropolitan Bishop of Kastoria Mr Kallinikos.

The New Democracy MP of Kastoria Maria Antoniou, the SYRIZA MP of Kozani Kalliopi Vetta, the Head of the Western Macedonia Region Georgios Amanatidis, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, the Commanding General of the Supreme Military Command of Epirus - Macedonia Lieutenant General Athanasios Garinis, the Deputy Head of the Regional Unit of Kastoria Dimitrios E. Savvopoulosand the Commanding General of the 9th Motorised Brigade "ADRIANOUPOLI" Brigadier General Anastasios Vasiliou, representatives of local authorities and delegations of Officers of the Armed and Security Forces attended the festivities.

After the conclusion of the ceremony, Mr Davakisstated:

"Today, Kastoria has two celebrations:

That of its Patron Saint, Saint Minas and that of its incorporation into the national mainland, 113 years ago.

We honour all those who made Greece greater with blood and struggles, during the 1stBalkan War.

Those sacrifices allow us today to enjoy the fruits of Freedom and to constantly fight for a better Greece!

Many happy returns to Kastoria!"
