Church Point -On January 28, 2025, shortly after 6:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 98 (Grand Prairie Highway) near Canadian Lane in Acadia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 63-year-old Alphonse Credeur of Church Point.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Credeur was driving a 2017 Ram 1500 east on LA Hwy 98. At the same time, a 2001 Peterbilt 18-wheeler was traveling west on LA Hwy 98. For reasons still under investigation, the Ram crossed the centerline and struck the side of the Peterbilt
Credeur, who was unrestrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt was properly restrained and not injured.
Although impairment on the part of the Peterbilt driver was not suspected, a voluntary breath sample was provided which showed no alcohol detected. A standard toxicology sample was collected from Credeur and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, proper seat belt usage can drastically decrease your chance of severe injury or death during a crash. Seat belts work by distributing crash forces across the strong bones of the body. Additionally, distracted, inattentive, and reckless driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state. Taking simple precautions like ensuring every occupant is wearing a seatbelt and following all traffic laws increases safety on the road.
