ReMA Engages in Joint U.S.-Germany Circularity Forum to Workshop Solutions on the Circular Economy

David Wagger, ReMA's Chief Scientist/Director of Environmental Management represented ReMA at Climathon Baltimore - Circular Solutions for Allopens in a new tab, to work with environmental policy practitioners on circularity and material challenges.

"Climathon Baltimore presented a great opportunity for ReMA to engage with a broad range of non-profit organizations, academics, students, emerging leaders, and local, state, and federal governments around circular economy generally and recycling of electronics, infrastructure, plastics, and textiles particularly," Wagger said.

The event was sponsored by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Washington and the non-profit Pocacito, and hosted by the Maryland Department of Environment. Attendees discussed challenges in the following areas: Built Environment; Electronics; Food & Biomass; Textiles & Plastics; and Water.

There are many organizations promoting circular economy across a broad range of products and materials that ReMA members handle, process, and recycle. Many such organizations may be unaware of recycling activity that is ongoing. Meetings such as Climathon Baltimore provide a venue for stakeholders, including local, state, and federal governments, to exchange ideas and to promote policies about circular economy.

Wagger participated in the breakout group for Textiles & Plastics and spoke with participants in Built Environment and Electronics breakout groups, areas that are relevant to the recycled materials industry.

"The relationships developed with attendees will provide opportunities for further engagement around circular economy and recycling, especially regarding legislation, policy, and regulation," he said.
