Exciting things coming to Santa Rosa County:
Recognizing September 14-20 as Forensic Science Week
The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners showed their appreciation and recognized the practice of forensic science by proclaiming September 14-20, 2025, as Forensic Science Week. Forensic science is a vital public service that plays a critical role in the investigation of crimes, the exoneration of the innocent, and the administration of justice. The board also recognized the dedicated employees of the District One Medical Examiner's Office who work tirelessly, often under difficult and emotionally challenging conditions, to ensure the accurate, timely, and compassionate investigation of deaths occurring under unusual, suspicious, or violent circumstances.
Remembering September 11, 2001
The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissionerspaused to honor and remember the lives lost during the tragic terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. In recognition of the day's significance, the board shared a commemorative video, offering a moment of reflection for the victims, their families, and the countless first responders and service members impacted by the events. This remembrance served as a solemn reminder of the nation's resilience and unity in the face of tragedy.
2026 Legislative Agenda
The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners approved the recommended support for full funding of state grants in the following categories:
- Florida Defense Infrastructure grant
- Job Growth grant
- FDOT five-year plan
- Small County Outreach Program
- Rural and Family Lands Protection Program
- Resiliency
- Pilot Distributed Wastewater
- Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grants
- Nonpoint Source Management (stormwater and water quality) grants
- Addressing concerns related to the local government impacts and implementation of SB 180
- Expansion of Tourist Development Tax uses for services and infrastructure
Grant Award: DEP Water Supply Pilot Program NW010 & BA 2025-126
The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners approved the DEP Water Supply Pilot Program Grant in the amount of $2,750,000 for the Point Baker Water System New 1,000 GPM Well and 750,000 Gallon Elevated Storage Tank project, Budget Amendment 2025-126.
Fall 2025 Household Hazardous Waste Day
The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners approved holding a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Amnesty Day event on Saturday, Oct. 11,
2025, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Gulf Breeze Community Center.
Floridatown Living Shoreline Construction Contract
The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners approved a contract award, ITB 25-044, to Gulf Marine Construction for $877,960 to construct the Floridatown Living Shoreline project funded by the Resilient Florida grant program.
Quarterly Pier Cleaning
The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners approved a quarterly Navarre Beach Pier cleaning scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 21, beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting two hours, with a request to close the pier to all activities from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
