EULEX : Council renews the mandate of the EU civilian mission in Kosovo*

The Council adopted a decision extending the mandate of the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo* (EULEX KOSOVO) for a further two years, until 14 June 2027.

EULEX Kosovo is a crucial tool to strengthen rule of law institutions in Kosovo. It was launched in 2008 as the largest civilian mission under the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union. EULEX's overall mission is to support selected rule of law institutions in Kosovo on their path towards increased effectiveness, sustainability, multi-ethnicity and accountability, free from political interference and in line with international human rights standards and best European practices.

EULEX is the largest EU Civilian mission and plays a crucial role in supporting Kosovo's democracy, security, rule of law and reconciliation among local communities. It is therefore important that we can keep up this vital work. A safe Kosovo also contributes to European security.

Kaja Kallas, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and President of the Foreign Affairs Council
