Drought conditions, extreme heat impact ABMC sites around the world

A number of ABMC sites throughout Europe and North Africa are currently experiencing drought conditions and high temperatures. Our staff is working to maintain the grounds as permitted by host nation regulations. All sites remain open to visitors, but here are some things you should know before you go.

How will the heat and dry conditions impact my visit?

• Plan for higher temperatures. Dress for the weather, protect yourself from the sun, and stay hydrated. Water is allowed on site, and is encouraged during periods of extreme heat. Guests must carry all trash off the grounds upon departure.
• Expect seasonal changes. Please note that while ABMC works to maintain these sacred grounds and balance responsible water usage in accordance with host nation regulations, some lawns and landscaping may appear less vibrant than guests typically expect.
• Stay flexible. Some sites may close access to sections of lawns to protect the area from damage. Guided tours are still available, and access to memorials, chapels, Walls of the Missing, and visitors centers (where available) are remain open to guests.
• Leave pets home. Remember that pets are not allowed on ABMC grounds. For service animals, the ground may be very hot and some sites offer little shade.
