Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Unveils New Real-Time Crime Center, Launches Drone as First Responder Program

This is a third-party release from the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office

New technology helps deputies to assess scenes remotely, negotiate with suspects and resolve emergencies faster

MONROE, La. - June 2, 2026 - The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office (OPSO) is bringing innovative technologies to the fight against crime, today unveiling a new real-time crime center (RTCC) and "Drone as First Responder" (DFR) program that will help deputies solve crimes and respond to emergencies faster.

OPSO's new RTCC, powered by Motorola Solutions, fuses live video from drones, body cameras, in-car video systems and license plate readers into a single operating picture for its deputies, providing real-time awareness of unfolding incidents and emergencies. Through the new DFR program, OPSO can launch a BRINC Responder drone directly to 911 calls. The drones can arrive on scene in as little as 70 seconds, providing a live view often before deputies can arrive. OPSO's new drone fleet also includes two BRINC Lemur 2 drones that can break glass to enter a building and project a deputy's voice to negotiate with suspects from a safe distance.

"Information is time - the better the information we get, the faster we can respond to help save lives," said Ouachita Parish Sheriff Marc Mashaw. "Our new Real-Time Crime Center allows us to analyze multiple sources of incident intelligence in the moment and work to quickly resolve an issue. We can now launch a drone to drop a life jacket to a boater in distress or a tourniquet to a hunter in the woods, bridging the gap until one of our deputies can physically get there."

"Ouachita Parish is transforming how they protect their community through the use of innovative technology," said Janet Fernandez, Southeast territory vice president, Motorola Solutions. "By integrating drones directly into their Real-Time Crime Center workflow, the Parish now has the right tools and visibility to make safer, faster decisions, even before their deputies arrive on scene."
