At about 1 a.m. Aug. 9, Columbia Police officers were on patrol in the 800 block of East Broadway when they heard shots fired in the immediate area. Officers observed the suspect, Tavan Eric Williams-Patrick, 20, of Columbia, holding a gun and attempting to place it on a sidewalk.
As Williams-Patrick tried to leave the scene on foot, police officers arrested him on charges of fourth-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
There were no known injuries or property damage.
