Port Police Locate Vehicle in Galveston Harbor, Working on Recovery

GALVESTON, TX (Friday, Dec. 27, 2024) - Port of Galveston police have located a pickup truck that they believe was driven into Galveston Harbor at Pier 20 at 2:14 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27. Police were working Friday afternoon to recover the vehicle and to determine if there were occupants.

Port police began investigating Friday morning after public reports of pier railing damage. After port security video confirmed that a vehicle drove into the water overnight, the port police patrol boat was dispatched to the scene shortly before noon. Port police used sonar to locate the vehicle at a depth of 29 feet.

According to Port of Galveston Police Chief Kenneth Brown, port police and the Galveston Police Department dive team were coordinating recovery work Friday afternoon. The investigation is ongoing.

Vessel traffic in the harbor has not been impacted. Galveston Wharves staff notified federal agencies and harbor operators of the situation.
