The European Commission has granted the Finnish Border Guard, the Police, the Finnish Defence Forces and the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom a total of EUR 1,833,075 in emergency funding to cover the costs incurred to these authorities in connection with repairing the damage done to the Estlink 2 power cable.
The source of funding is the Internal Security Fund (ISF), which is one of the EU Home Affairs Funds.
The sum will be divided between the Finnish Border Guard, the Police, the Finnish Defence Forces and Traficom. Funding has been applied for on the basis of the actual personnel costs incurred. The incident caused a significant amount of additional work for all these authorities, which will be compensated with the funding provided.
The Estlink 2 power cable between Finland and Estonia, which was damaged on Christmas Day last year, resumed operations at the end of June.
