The Strategic Communications and Branding team at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) has received international recognition for its creativity and launch of the university's rebrand.
The team earned a 2026 Platinum Award for "Body of Work Achievement" from the AVA Digital Awards for the institutional rebrand, which included a refreshed logo and new tagline: Where Purpose Meets Passion. This honor represents the highest level of achievement in the competition.
The AVA Digital Awards celebrate excellence in digital communication, creativity, and innovation worldwide. Past winners include global leaders such as Dell, PepsiCo, and AARP, placing UTMB among the most influential brands in the industry.
"This recognition reflects the power of a clear, authentic brand aligned with purpose," said Dr. Jochen Reiser, president of UTMB and CEO of the UTMB Health System. "Our team delivered far more than a visual refresh-they articulated who we are as an institution, honored our legacy, and positioned UTMB with confidence and clarity for the future. This work strengthens our ability to lead, to connect, and to serve at a global level."
The effort by the Strategic Communications and Branding team included a new visual identity, advertising campaigns, video storytelling, website redesigns, and an enterprise-wide rollout. More than a design update, the rebrand marked a cultural shift, honoring UTMB's legacy while positioning the institution for the future with clarity, confidence, and connection to The University of Texas System.
"This recognition is a testament to the creativity, collaboration, and commitment that went into every detail of this project," said Stephen Hadley, vice president, marketing and media relations. "Our team set a new standard for what strategic communications can achieve. I am very proud of the department and its contribution in elevating the UTMB brand."
The AVA Digital Awards are sponsored and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP). The international organization consists of several thousand production, marketing, communication, advertising, public relations, and freelance professionals. Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.
By earning a Platinum Award, UTMB joins an elite group of organizations recognized for outstanding digital branding and storytelling, reinforcing its place on the global stage.
