AT&T provides $25,000 grant for Cameron University scholarships

The Cameron University Foundation has received a $25,000 grant from AT&T that will be used to establish the AT&T Student Scholarship, which is designed to directly reduce the financial burden of tuition so that students can focus on their studies and professional development opportunities.

"The need to provide financial assistance to Cameron students is ever-present," says President Shane Hunt. "We're so grateful that AT&T's corporate philanthropy policies encompass these realities by prioritizing investment in underserved and low-income communities."

Ten scholarships will be awarded to sophomores or juniors with demonstrated financial need and who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The scholarships will be awarded to two students in each of the following areas: health and human services, business with entrepreneurship, arts and culture, biology or agriculture, and high-demand majors where scholarships are most needed. CU's Office of Financial Assistance will determine eligibility based on FAFSA data and institutional records to ensure equitable and responsible award distribution.

By supporting students in the five identified areas, the scholarships will address projected workforce shortages in Oklahoma, which expects a deficit of workers by 2028 due to an aging population, low labor participation rates and evolving skill requirements. Employers report difficulty filling positions in healthcare, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, energy, and skilled trades. While CareerTech programs and apprenticeships help meet part of this demand, degree-qualified professionals remain in short supply.

Cameron University is uniquely positioned to maximize the impact of AT&T's contribution.

"At AT&T, we connect people to greater possibility," says Jan Moran, regional director, AT&T External Affairs. We do that by investing in our network and supporting institutions and organizations that are doing good work in our communities. Our contribution to Cameron University will help more Oklahomans prepare for meaningful careers and brighter futures."

With a commitment to student success, Cameron provides comprehensive support services, including academic advising, career counseling, mentoring programs and experiential learning opportunities. Faculty are engaged with regional employers so that curricula remain aligned with workforce needs, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to enter and contribute to high-demand industries immediately.

"Through this gift, AT&T will support ten deserving students, providing both financial relief and opportunities for professional and personal growth," Hunt says. "The scholarships will help students from underserved backgrounds overcome economic barriers, persist in their studies, and graduate prepared to contribute meaningfully to their communities. Each scholarship represents an investment in a student's future, the vitality of southwest Oklahoma's workforce, and the long-term economic and social health of the region."
