Yakym Introduces Resolution to Honor Lou Holtz

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Rudy Yakym (R-IN-02) introduced a resolution (H.Res.1122) to honor the incredible life and legacy of Coach Lou Holtz. Yakym was joined by fellow Indiana Congressmen James Baird (R-IN-04) and Mark Messmer (R-IN-08), as well as Pat Fallon (R-TX-04) and Mike Kelly (R-PA-16).

"Coach Holtz was a legend in every sense of the word, a national championship-winning coach, a bestselling author, a beloved media personality, and an inspiration to countless people around the world," Rep. Yakym said. "This is one small way we can honor a legacy that touched so many lives, including my own. I'm deeply grateful for the mark he left on his players, on Notre Dame, and on everyone fortunate enough to know him."

"Lou Holtz was a legendary Hoosier and dedicated football coach who shaped Notre Dame's football players and their traditions for generations," Rep. Baird said. "His passing is a monumental loss for Hoosiers. I am proud to help introduce this resolution to honor his legacy centered around faith, family, character, and the relentless pursuit of excellence."

"Lou Holtz was not just a legendary football coach," Rep. Messmer said. "More importantly, he was a man of deep faith. His dedication to his players, his family, and to God are what solidify him as America's beloved Coach. We Hoosiers were blessed to have had him lead the Fighting Irish and will forever quote his wonderful sayings as an homage to the great leader that he was."

"Coach Lou Holtz spent decades investing in college athletes, demanding their best on the field and shaping them into men of character, faith, and perseverance off it," Rep. Fallon said. "I am deeply grateful for the profound impact he made on my life and the Fighting Irish program. A lifelong patriot, Coach Holtz's legacy will continue to be celebrated as the ultimate standard of leadership and mentorship."

"Both on and off the field, Coach Holtz exemplified what it means to be a leader," Rep. Kelly said. "During his tenure as head coach of University of Notre Dame football program, he was incredibly successful. But perhaps more importantly, he helped to set up young men for a successful life once their college football career had ended. He will be greatly missed."
