Bridgeport City Council Launches New Walk of Honor Program to Celebrate Residents

August 6, 2025

Bridgeport, CT - Councilwoman Maria Ines Valle D-137th, and Councilwoman AmyMarie Vizzo-Paniccia D-134th and members of the Bridgeport City Council are proud to announce the launch of a new civic recognition initiative, the Walk of Honor. It is a permanent tribute designed to celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of Bridgeport residents who have brought honor to themselves and the city through local, national, or international achievements. The Walk of Honor will be located at City Hall on 45 Lyon Terrace, Bridgeport, CT.

The Walk of Honor will recognize individuals across a wide range of fields, from education, the arts, and athletics to public service, business, science and more. Honorees will be selected annually and commemorated through an installation in a dedicated space in the city, showcasing their names and accomplishments for public appreciation and inspiration.

Councilwoman Valle stated, "This will be an opportunity to celebrate the everyday heroes who have made a difference in the city and have opened doors for others."

As part of the program's launch, the City Council has appointed a Citizen Review Committee responsible for reviewing and selecting nominees in accordance with criteria set forth by the municipal ordinance. This community-based committee brings together respected members of Bridgeport's civic and cultural fabric.

The inaugural members are:

  • Councilwoman Maria Valle
  • Councilwoman AmyMarie Vizzo-Paniccia
  • Councilwoman Eneida Martinez
  • Isolina DeJesus
  • Julio Reinoso
  • Sharon Donaldson
  • Charles "Chuck" Hebert

Together, this committee will evaluate nominees based on achievement, a minimum residency requirement, and the extent to which the individual has served as a positive ambassador for the City of Bridgeport.

Each year, six individuals will be selected by the committee and recommended to the City Council's Miscellaneous Matters Committee for final review and approval. An unveiling ceremony will honor each inductee with a commemorative plaque and public recognition.

"I am so glad that after such a very long time, that a renewed way to honor our city's homegrown heroes, is now on track with the Walk of Honor," Councilwoman Vizzo-Paniccia stated.
