National Assembly Deputy Speaker and European Integration Committee Chairperson Meets with Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs met today at the National Assembly with Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia, Oleksandr Lytvynenko to discuss the potential for advancement of interparliamentary cooperation.

Kovacs and Lytvynenko deemed that direct communication between the members of the Verkhovna Rada and the National Assembly could contribute to a better understanding of the positions of the two countries.

As both Serbia and Ukraine are determined to join the European Union, the officials highlighted the need to intensify contact and communication between the MPs concerning the matter and organise meetings between the two parliaments' European integration committees.

Continuous communication at the multilateral level is also of special importance, said Elvira Kovacs, particularly that of bilateral cooperation between our delegations in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The officials also spoke of the status and position of national minorities in Serbia and Ukraine and exchanged experiences and good normative practice on the use of script and education in the mother tongue.
