BANGOR, ME - Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins participated in the ribbon cutting for the renovated runway at Bangor International Airport. The new renovations will help the airport adapt to an unprecedented increase in air traffic. More than half of the funding for this project-$28 million-came from five Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants awarded since 2022.
"Bangor International Airport plays a vital role in Maine's economy, our national defense, and our state's connectivity to the rest of the world," said Senator Collins. "This renovated runway will improve safety, accommodate growing air traffic, and ensure that the airport remains prepared to serve both civilian and military operations well into the future."
In 2021, Senator Collins was one of 10 senators who negotiated the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that provided $15 billion for FAA airport improvement grant programs to support renovations, new construction, and upgrades at airports nationwide. Since joining the Appropriations Committee in 2009, Senator Collins has helped to secure more than $1 billion in competitive transportation grants for the State of Maine.
