Ascension Illinois is excited to announce that it is contributing $10,000 to Harper College's HOPE Scholarship fund with the Alexian Brothers Health System Nursing Scholarship to help bolster nursing education access in northwest Chicagoland. This is the 15th year the Ministry has contributed to the scholarship fund.
This scholarship opportunity is awarded to students enrolled in the school's nursing program who demonstrate bilingual fluency, strong academics and a passion for the nursing industry as a whole. The scholarship helps students cover tuition, fees, and books, easing the financial burden of higher education.
"It is important to reward nursing students who have a caring spirit and drive which allow them to go the extra mile and to improve the health and well-being of all the patients they encounter," said Roxann Barber, President of Ascension Saint Alexius. "A scholarship like this one does just that: rewards those who are looking to improve themselves in order to improve their community."
Access to education is important for the diverse communities we serve across Illinois, and our Ministry is pleased to contribute by providing opportunities that also serve to grow the number of nurses entering the field.
Providing this scholarship allows our health system to serve alongside Harper College in improving the professional growth of a student who is being called to serve their community. Our Mission guides us to similarly serve, and as a Catholic Ministry, service can be represented through strengthening and educating the next generation of nursing professionals.
