Johnson Announces Student Winners of Congressional Art Competition

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) announced Cadence Micucci from Tea as the winner of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for South Dakota. Micucci's mixed media artwork is named "The Original Soldier." Micucci is a sophomore at Tea Area High School. Her art teacher is Angela Kamps. The artwork will be on display for the next year in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol along with the winning artwork from other congressional districts.

Second place was awarded to Porshia Zimiga, a senior at Wall High School. Her artwork, titled "A Whispering Dusk" features white and black charcoal pencils and chalk pastels. Zimiga's piece will be displayed in Johnson's Washington, D.C. office.

"These two art pieces reflect the history and heritage of South Dakota," said Johnson. "Congratulations to Cadence and Porshia - your art showcases your skills and creativity and will represent South Dakota well in Congress. I'm impressed with your work."

The Congressional Art Competition is sponsored by the members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The South Dakota Arts Council partners with Johnson's office to carry out this initiative. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, providing members of Congress with an opportunity to recognize talent in their home districts.
