The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners proclaimed May 15, 2026, as Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 2026 as Building Safety Month during its regular meeting on May 7.
Peace Officers Memorial Day serves as an opportunity to recognize the courage of law enforcement officers who play an integral part in protecting the lives and property of citizens and honor the fallen heroes. In 1962, Peace Officers Memorial Day was established by President John F. Kennedy to honor the law enforcement officers of America who work devotedly and selflessly, regardless of the peril or hazard to themselves.
The Board of Commissioners urges all citizens to salute Forsyth County's brave law enforcement officers and remember their peace officer brothers and sisters who have fallen in the line of duty.
The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners also proclaimed May 2026 as Building Safety Month, recognizing the critical role of our community's largely unknown protectors of public safety, who assure us of safe, sustainable and affordable buildings that are essential to prosperity.
Building Safety Month serves as an opportunity to remind the public of the commitment of dedicated Forsyth County officials and private partners who work year-round to ensure the safe construction of buildings, including building safety and fire prevention personnel, planners, architects, engineers, builders, tradespeople, design professionals, laborers, plumbers and others in the construction industry.
During Building Safety Month, the Board of Commissioners encourages residents to raise awareness about building safety on a personal, local and global scale.
