Gov. Kelly Armstrong has proclaimed May 3-9 as North Dakota Travel and Tourism Week in alignment with National Travel and Tourism Week. The annual observance recognizes the importance of travel to the state and highlights the welcoming spirit residents share with visitors.
This year's national theme, "Postmarked: Essential," highlights travel's essential role in local economies and communities. North Dakota residents contribute to that impact each time they say "Hello" to visitors and share what makes the state a meaningful place to explore.
Tourism continues to be one of North Dakota's largest industries. In 2024, visitors spent $3.4 billion and made 26.3 million trips to the state, a 2.7% increase over 2023. The tourism industry employs more than 46,000 people and supports over 3,000 businesses.
In 2025, visitor activity generated $310.6 million in state and local taxes and contributed $2.3 billion in taxable sales and purchases.
"North Dakota's tourism industry strengthens our communities and supports businesses across the state," Armstrong said. "Travel continues to play a major role in our economic growth and quality of life."
Through the "HELLO" campaign, travelers are invited to discover the local charm and beauty of North Dakota. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to enjoy the summer season with new experiences across the state.
North Dakota's Tourism Week aligns with the U.S. Travel Association's National Travel and Tourism Week, an annual event celebrating the importance of travel and tourism to the U.S. economy. More information about Travel and Tourism Week and the proclamation can be found at https://ndgov.link/NTTW26.
