Fast facts:
DETROIT, Mich. - Weather permitting, crews will resume utility relocation on the M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) bridge over Dequindre Cut on Tuesday, June 2. Work started in early May but was paused for Flower Day at Eastern Market, the Memorial Day holiday, and the Detroit Grand Prix.
Starting Tuesday, the two right lanes of northbound M-3 will be closed from Riopelle Street to the Dequindre Cut. The eastbound Gratiot Connector will have double-lane closures leading up to M-3. In addition, there will be intermittent double lane closures daily on southbound M-3 from 9 a.m. - 3p.m. This stage of the relocation work is expected to wrap up in late June.
During this stage of the relocation work, the Dequindre Cut will remain open with access to Eastern Market maintained. Work will be suspended and lanes open Monday, June 22, for the Ford Fireworks.
Currently, utilities are located within the existing structure and must be moved prior to any future demolition work. The eventual removal and replacement project is currently in design.
