Deputy Minister Tandi Mahambehlala to lead service delivery outreach visit to Phokwane Local Municipality, Northern Cape

The Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Tandi Mahambehlala, will on Friday, 18 September 2026, lead an Integrated Service Delivery Outreach Visit to the Phokwane Local Municipality in Hartswater, Frances Baard District, Northern Cape, on behalf of Deputy President Paul Mashatile.

The outreach forms part of government coordinated efforts to assess service delivery challenges, accelerate interventions and strengthen cooperation between national, provincial and local government.

This is in line with Deputy President Mashatile's delegated function, focused on implementing the Rapid Response interventions on service delivery and troubleshooting in service delivery hotspots. Deputy President Mashatile also assists the President in the roll-out of the District Development Model through effective coordination of the different spheres of government which will improve the functioning of municipalities and address community concerns.

The delegation which will amongst others, include the Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul; Minister of Transport, Ms Barbara Creecy; Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr David Mahlobo; representatives of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and senior government officials, will engage with the Municipal leadership and visit strategic government projects to assess progress, identify challenges and determine interventions required to address key service delivery priorities.

Particular focus will be placed on assessing the condition of roads and stormwater infrastructure affecting communities in Hartswater, Jan Kempdorp, Pampierstad, Ganspan and surrounding rural areas, as well as efforts to improve local road infrastructure, water and sanitation services, healthcare, educational opportunities, human settlements, employment and youth development, and recreational facilities.

The programme will conclude with a Community Feedback Session, providing residents with an opportunity to engage directly with government and receive feedback on interventions aimed at addressing challenges facing the surrounding communities.
