ATF investigation leads to 12-year federal prison sentence for Rochester drug trafficker who possessed firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - A Rochester man was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison following an ATF-led investigation into a marijuana trafficking operation that uncovered large quantities of narcotics, a firearm, ammunition, and tens of thousands of dollars in drug proceeds.

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo & Special Agent in Charge Bryan DiGirolamo, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) New York announced on July 15, 2026, that Todd J. Romig, 29, of Rochester, NY, who was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 50 kilograms or more of marijuana, and possession and discharge of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, was sentenced to serve 144 months in prison by Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.

"This 12-year federal prison sentence demonstrates the impact of strong partnerships and proactive law enforcement," said ATF New York Special Agent in Charge Bryan DiGirolamo. "ATF NY Rochester Violent Crime Task Force, alongside our federal, state, and local partners, remains focused on identifying and dismantling criminal networks before they lead to further violence. By removing firearms, large quantities of narcotics, and illegal proceeds from the streets, we are making our neighborhoods safer and holding violent offenders accountable."

The investigation revealed that between June 2024 and April 2025, Romig conspired with others to traffic large quantities of marijuana throughout the Rochester area. Following a shots-fired incident at a Monroe Avenue apartment building, law enforcement recovered approximately 34 pounds of marijuana, a rifle, ammunition, spent shell casings, more than $50,000 in drug proceeds, and additional evidence of drug trafficking. Investigators later seized another approximately 146 pounds of marijuana from a Spencerport residence used to store narcotics.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Rochester Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, and the Ogden Police Department, and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York.
