Update on Emergency Lane Closures on Eastbound I-580 Richmond San-Rafael Bridge

Contra Costa County - Following the overnight incident involving a vehicle striking the Scofield Avenue undercrossing near eastbound I-580 in Richmond. Caltrans will continue an emergency lane closure as a precautionary measure. Lane #1 on eastbound I-580, from the Toll Plaza to Stenmark Drive, will remain closed while Caltrans bridge engineers conduct a comprehensive structural assessment to ensure safety of the motoring public.

The Stenmark Drive on-ramp to eastbound I-580 has been reopened. However, the closure of Lane #1 is scheduled to remain in effect until the assessment is complete. There is currently no estimated time for the full reopening of the lane.

  • Eastbound I-580 near Toll Plaza to Stenmark: Lane #1(fast lane)-CLOSED
  • Stenmark Drive On-ramp to EB I-580: OPEN

Motorists should expect delays and are advised to seek alternate routes or allow extra travel time. At this time, there is no estimated time for full reopening.
