Ministry organisational update

The updated leadership structure comes into effect today, Monday 2 March 2026, and supports our commitment to clearer roles and responsibilities, delivering consistently high-quality, evidence-informed services, and focusing our efforts on equity and excellence.

Under the new leadership structure, our business groups are:

  • Te Mahau | Education Services - led by Deputy Secretary | Hautū, Geoff Short
  • Te Pou Taunaki | Learning Support - led by Deputy Secretary | Hautū, Bridget White
  • Te Pou Kōrero | Digital and Data - led by Deputy Secretary | Hautū, Rich Adams
  • Te Poutāhū | Curriculum Centre - led by Acting Deputy Secretary | Hautū Taupua, Pauline Cleaver
  • Te Pou Tuarongo | Māori Education - led by Deputy Secretary | Hautū, Mere-Hēni Reweti-Simcock
  • Te Pou Ohumahi Mātauranga | Education Workforce - led by Deputy Secretary | Hautū, Anna Welanyk
  • Te Pou Kaupapahere | Policy - led by Deputy Secretary | Hautū, Andy Jackson
  • Te Pou Rangatōpū | Corporate - led by Acting Deputy Secretary | Hautū Taupua, Doug Craig (while recruitment continues for the permanent role).
