Rep. Cockley Applauds Hikma Pharmaceuticals Expansion, Investment in Columbus Workforce

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Christine Cockley (D - Columbus) this week welcomed Hikma Pharmaceuticals' announcement that it will invest $216M to expand its Columbus manufacturing operations, creating 50 new jobs and further strengthening Central Ohio's growing life sciences and advanced manufacturing sectors.

The expansion is part of a broader $267M investment by Hikma across Ohio and reinforces Columbus' position as a national leader in pharmaceutical manufacturing, research, and development.

"Today's announcement is a major win for the West Side, for Columbus, and for Ohio's future," said Rep. Cockley. "Hikma's continued investment demonstrates that our community is a place where innovation, manufacturing, and workforce talent come together to drive economic growth. These new jobs will create opportunities for residents at every stage of their careers while strengthening an industry that is becoming increasingly important to our region."

Hikma's Columbus facility, located on the West Side, is already the company's largest manufacturing employer and one of the region's most significant private-sector employers, with more than 1,200 employees. The facility produces essential medicines used by patients and healthcare providers across the country and recently became one of Hikma's three global research and development hubs.

"I look forward to working with community partners, educational institutions, and employers to help connect West Side residents with the opportunities this growth creates," Rep. Cockley added.

Rep. Cockley highlighted the importance of continued investment in Ohio's life sciences ecosystem, which is creating pathways to family-sustaining careers in manufacturing, engineering, quality assurance, research, logistics, and skilled trades.
