Raleigh Police Department Receives Generous Donation from Estate of Former Officer’s Family

The Raleigh Police Department recently received a generous $105,000 donation from the estate of Ms. Virginia Lea Parker, honoring her family's lasting connection to the department and the City of Raleigh.

Ms. Parker's father, Benjamin Parker, proudly served with the Raleigh Police Department from 1951 to 1971. In recognition of his service and legacy, Ms. Parker directed that a portion of his estate be gifted to the department.

The donation, made official on Tuesday, Nov. 4, will help strengthen the department's commitment to public safety. Funds will be used to purchase new K9's and supply them with equipment providing vital support to RPD's K9 Unit.

"We are deeply grateful for this gift," said Lieutenant David Davis, Public Affairs Officer for the Raleigh Police Department. "Any funds dedicated to helping us better serve and protect the people of Raleigh represent a meaningful investment in public safety."

Lt. Davis added, "On behalf of the Raleigh Police Department and the City of Raleigh, I want to extend our sincere gratitude for this continued support."

She donated $50,000 back in April of 2025. The department plans to share updates on the new K9 Officer's arrival and training in the months ahead, celebrating the generosity and community spirit behind this contribution.
