Cabrera's journey from Murrow student to nationally recognized journalist makes her an especially meaningful honoree, said Bruce Pinkleton, dean of the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication.
"Few modern journalists so clearly reflect Murrow's legacy in his resolve to tell critical stories through accurate, steady, and balanced reporting," Pinkleton said. "Ana's coverage of events resulting in social and political unrest - the racial strife following the shooting of Michael Brown, the Unite the Right rally, or the London Bridge terrorist attacks - reveals a dedication to impartial reporting and an ability to bring clarity to fast-moving events."
