AKRON, OH - Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced that the Department of Health and Human Services awarded the University of Akron $554,078 for biomedical research and training. The funding will be used for understanding a chemical reaction process that will lead to a more efficient design of bioactive substances.
"Research institutions like the University of Akron are driving innovation that strengthens our economy, advances scientific discovery, and improves lives. This federal investment will support groundbreaking biomedical research that could lead to more effective drugs and treatments while creating valuable opportunities for students and emerging scientists. I am proud to help secure resources that keep Akron at the forefront of innovation and prepare the next generation of researchers and problem-solvers," said Rep. Sykes.

Dr. Liu's research will transform our fundamental understanding of photoredox mechanisms and kinetics, which will lead to more efficient catalytic systems used in the synthesis of drugs and other bioactive compounds.
