Augusta, Georgia Government
AUGUSTA, GA (January 7, 2026) - The Augusta, Georgia Juvenile Court is beginning the new year with a significant milestone after securing a competitive multi-year grant to expand youth programming focused on gang prevention. With letters of support from the Chief Judge of Superior Court, the Richmond County Sheriff, District Attorney Williams, Augusta commissioners, and community partners, Dr. Audrey Armistad and the Juvenile Court team were awarded $335,000 annually for three years, totaling more than $1 million. This marks the first time Augusta-Richmond County has received this award.
"This is the first time our county has been selected for this award, and we are beyond excited about the work ahead in 2026 and beyond," said Chief Judge Tianna M. Bias.
Under the leadership of Chief Judge Bias, alongside Judges William Fleming, Rahmaan Bowick and Katrell Nash, the Augusta, Georgia Juvenile Court continues to strengthen services for children and families. Supported by the Superior Court, court administration, and departments across Augusta, Georgia Government, the Court is expanding community partnerships and advancing trauma-informed practices to better support youth involved in the juvenile justice system. As part of its modernization efforts, the Juvenile Court is implementing electronic filing for juvenile cases in partnership with Clerk of Court Hattie Sullivan, improving efficiency, transparency, and access. The Court has also partnered with Augusta, Georgia, Government's Information Technology Department to establish a dedicated Juvenile Court Computer Lab. Made possible through the donation of ten new computers provided by Glenn Hall and Augusta's IT team, the lab will support academic and rehabilitative programming aimed at reducing recidivism.
The Juvenile Court Computer Lab is scheduled to become operational by February 1 at THRIVE on Walton Way, the Court's enrichment program led by Dr. Armistad.
Together, these initiatives reflect the Augusta, Georgia Juvenile Court's continued commitment to innovation, collaboration, and positive outcomes for youth and families across the community.
