Elmhurst, Ill. - As part of its commitment to providing safe, seamless and personal care, Endeavor Health Elmhurst Hospital announced the opening of a new 16-bed Patient Observation Unit. This unit represents a significant investment in providing truly outstanding care, close to home. As the hospital celebrates its centennial, the new patient unit marks the first completed project in a major campus expansion designed to enhance healthcare access for the Elmhurst community and surrounding suburbs.
"For 100 years, this hospital has been a pillar of the community, and we are committed to evolving to meet its needs for the next century," said Kim Darey, MD, president of Endeavor Health Elmhurst Hospital.
Located off the hospital's East Lobby as an extension of the existing Surgical Observation Unit, the new patient unit is designed to improve the experience for patients while providing vital support to the hospital's Emergency Department, among the busiest in the Endeavor Health system.
"This new unit provides a dedicated, specialized space for our clinical teams to care for patients who may require just a little more monitoring. It will also help patients transition more smoothly from the emergency room when it's time, ensuring our neighbors and loved ones are cared for promptly and comfortably," Dr. Darey said.
These enhancements are part of a broader vision to ensure residents have access to outstanding subspecialty care. Future projects, including a two-story addition above the Nancy Knowles Cancer Center and a new medical office building, will further expand local access to premier cancer care, surgical services and pediatric care.
To help bring this vision to life, the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation invites the community to be a part of this historic transformation by supporting its Centennial Campaign, a comprehensive effort to fund the campus expansion, advanced technology and professional development.
