Employee Spotlight: Amanda Davis Firefighter/EMT Leading Through Service and Recognized as a 20 Under 40 Honoree for Community Impact

Amanda Davis has served the City as a Firefighter/EMT since April 2021, following 16 years as an auditor for local and international CPA firms. Named to the 20 Under 40 class for her leadership and community impact, she also founded a nonprofit that gives local children a DREAM Christmas, mentors youth, and serves on multiple boards.

Davis combines a strong academic background with extensive community service. She holds a bachelor's in accounting from Siena Heights University and an MBA from Wayne State University. She chairs the United Way's African American Leadership Council, serves as finance coordinator for Mom's House of Toledo, and co-founded Down for the Clause. She also teaches fire safety to youth across the City, is a certified personal trainer, and a former college track and field athlete.

Her nonprofit work grew from a simple idea among friends. "Down for the Clause started as an idea between friends that we would adopt families for Christmas instead of buying extravagant gifts for our own families," Davis said. "We knew what it was like to not receive gifts as children, and some of us were parents who had times when the money just wasn't there during the holidays. We would put our money in a pot and ask friends and family if they knew anyone in need. Those closest to us wanted to get involved and give donations to assist. From there, Down for the Clause was born."

Since 2011, the organization has served more than 800 children and raised over $230,000. In 2024, it expanded to support one Toledo Public Schools elementary school each year by providing school supplies for all students, helping take the burden off parents as the school year begins.

Davis said her personal experiences inspired her community work. "I have always been involved in my community. I know from first-hand experience what it is like to not have enough food or clothing. My mother, a single parent, did the best she could, but sometimes the ends didn't meet. Christmas is such a big holiday for little ones but can also be hard for parents. My team and I are grateful and honored to provide a little relief during the holiday season. Seeing those smiling faces is our why."

Being a TRFD Firefighter/EMT has shaped the way she serves the community. "It keeps me humble. Just because I am healthy and happy today, I am only one car accident, one poor health diagnosis, or one major life change away from being in the same shoes as the people we serve. We are all just alike. It teaches me patience and empathy when dealing with the community as a firefighter, as a mom, and as a human. I'll never forget where I come from and how far God has brought me."

Being recognized as one of Toledo's Top 20 Under 40 in 2025 was an emotional milestone. "Being recognized was a huge accomplishment for me! I still don't think I've fully wrapped my mind around it. Once I was nominated, I thought, no way will I get chosen. I didn't think I had done enough, and I was turning 40 soon. This deadline felt heavy! Even afterwards, I struggled with questioning if I belong among such a distinguished group. My village quickly reminded me of my accomplishments and character. Listening to the moderator read my bio was an emotional moment. I felt like I was finally being seen! Life has been busier than ever since!"

Community members can support Down for the Clause through Cashapp ($Down4TClause), Venmo (@Down4TClause), or Zelle ([email protected]). Volunteers are also welcome to help wrap gifts and organize the holiday event.
