Washington, DC-Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) motioned to subpoena the White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller and the White House Border Czar Tom Homan to answer questions before the House Committee on Homeland Security (CHS). Ramirez's motion follows Miller and Homan's failure to testify in the CHS's minority day hearing in front of Americans who have been harmed by the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) unlawful immigration enforcement. According to reports, Miller and Homan are the architects of the enforcement operations across the country.
During the hearing, members of Congress heard the testimony of Marimar Martinez andRev. David Black from Chicago, army veteran George Retes, Jr from California, and Ryan Ecklund from Minnesota. The hearing was the first time that witnesses impacted by DHS's unaccountable expanded operations testified in official congressional hearings.
"Senate Republicans are streamlining another reconciliation bill to fund ICE and CBP for another 3 years with an additional $70 BILLION of your taxpayer dollars. And adding insult to injury, Stephen Miller and Tom Homan - the architects of the abuse we are seeing - can't be bothered to come and face the people in this room who have survived their atrocities," said Congresswoman Ramirez. "Trump, Miller, and Homan are willing to weaponize the government against its people to ensure anyone who gets in their way ends up shot, detained, deported, or dead. But we are onto them, and we will hold them accountable- I will make sure of that."

Full remarks as prepared for delivery:
-
Thank you, Chair and Ranking Member, for holding this hearing today.
-
I want to especially thank our witnesses for continuing to show up for your communities. I will never take for granted what it means to share your stories over and over again.
-
So, while I wish you did not have to keep sharing your story, thank you for doing so again today.
-
It is clear now more than ever that DHS REMAINS the biggest threat to our collective safety.
-
And in spite of that, Senate Republicans are streamlining another reconciliation bill to fund ICE and CBP for another 3 years with an additional $70 BILLION of your taxpayer dollars.
-
And adding insult to injury, Stephen Miller and Tom Homan - the architects of the abuse we are seeing - can't be bothered to come and face the people in this room who have survived their atrocities.
-
So, I want the Administration to be clear:
-
Firing Noem - something the people won through their action - won't change our resolve to conduct oversight and ensure accountability.
-
Markwayne's attempts to roll back some of Noem's policies don't change anything - he is still in partnership with Miller and Homan.
-
Taking a targeted, quieter approach to terrorizing us won't deter us. We have seen with our own eyes what DHS is capable of. We do not consent.
-
Trump, Miller, and Homan are willing to weaponize the government against its people to ensure anyone who gets in their way ends up shot, detained, deported, or dead.
-
But we are onto them, and we will hold them accountable- I will make sure of that.
-
Ms. Martinez, I want to first thank you so much for what you have already shared with us today.
-
As someone who has experienced this violence first-hand, what would you say to Tom Homan and Stephen Miller had they had the courage to show up today?
-
What message do you want Congress to hear, as some of my colleagues ask for billions more dollars to keep funding these violations of our rights?
-
Based on what we have heard today, I want to ask my colleagues, how can you justify spending another $70 billion dollars on this dangerous, inhumane, unlawful terror campaign?
-
DHS cannot be reformed.
-
It must be dismantled, piece by piece, and something new - a system that honors our rights, our dignity, and our humanity - must be built.
-
So today is an invitation to every member of Congress: let's Melt ICE and dismantle DHS!
