Dear Neighbor,
I'm writing to share important City preparations and need-to-know information as one of the largest snow storms in recent years moves into New Brunswick. As of noon today, Governor Sherrill has declared a State of Emergency to keep everyone home and safe while our essential personnel - including DPW, Police, and Fire - prepare for the storm.
Please check regular City storm updates at www.cityofnewbrunswick.org, follow City of New Brunswick on Facebook and Instagram, and sign up for Nixle for urgent alerts.
The following details may be helpful as you prepare in the hours ahead:
-
Parking: New Brunswick Parking Authority garages are now open for residents to park free of charge until 8:00 AM Tuesday.
-
Vehicle removal: Nixle is repeating reminders every six hours to remove vehicles from roadways before they become snow covered so plows can work effectively.
-
Towing and ticketing: Vehicles left on snow-emergency roads after they become snow covered will be ticketed and towed by the New Brunswick Police Department. PA announcements will be made in neighborhoods before ticketing and towing.
-
Warming center: Code Blue will be in effect from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM through Tuesday, February 24. A warming center is available at 6 Kirkpatrick Street.
-
Shelter and services: Anyone needing shelter or social services should call 2-1-1 for assistance.
-
Trash and recycling: Monday's (2/23) scheduled trash collection has been moved to Wednesday (2/25) and Monday's (2/23) recycling collection has been moved to Saturday (2/28). Services are expected to return to a normal schedule on Tuesday.
-
City offices: City Hall and City offices will be open on Monday.
A few neighborly tips, please do not shovel snow back into the streets, keep the sidewalks shoveled, and help to clear snow from in front of fire hydrants to assist the fire department in the event of an emergency and corners for pedestrian intersection crossings.
Let us all please stay safe and look out for one another.
Sincerely,
Jim Cahill
Mayor
