Police pursuit leads to collision; IIU investigating: C26-229020

On September 11, 2026, at approximately 1:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) received a 911 call from a concerned citizen reporting a possible abduction at the intersection of River Avenue and Donald Street. The caller reported observing a man forcing a woman into a green Jeep-style vehicle before it fled the area.
A short time later, West District General Patrol officers located a vehicle matching the description, a green 2023 Ford Bronco, in a parking lot in the 400 block of River Avenue. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed, striking a parked vehicle.
A pursuit was initiated based on the information available to officers at the time. During the pursuit, the Bronco collided with a Winnipeg Police Service cruiser near Wellington Crescent.
At approximately 1:57 p.m., the Bronco failed to stop at a stop sign at Broadway Avenue and Langside Street and collided with a westbound Mitsubishi Outlander, causing the Outlander to strike a nearby building. The Bronco then collided with additional parked vehicles and became inoperable.
The driver of the Bronco, Kesif FONTAINE (18), was taken into custody. All occupants of the Bronco and the Outlander were assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital.
On September 12, 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service was advised that an occupant of the Outlander had sustained injuries consistent with the definition of a serious injury under The Police Services Act. As a result, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) was notified.
