Remembrance Sunday observed in Islington

Residents, veterans, civic leaders, and community groups came together across Islington on Sunday to mark Remembrance Sunday with gratitude, and quiet reflection.

The day began with a poignant Service of Remembrance on Islington Green, led by the Mayor of Islington, Cllr Jason Jackson, joined by councillors, and local organisations.

The service included prayers from , military bugle calls, and a two-minute silence observed in honour of all those who lost their lives in service.

Wreaths were laid at the Islington Green War Memorial by veterans, community representatives, and members of the public - each one a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the Armed Forces and their families throughout history.

Commemorations continued throughout the borough, with further services held at Spa Green Garden and Manor Gardens.

These gatherings offered spaces for reflection accompanied by readings, music, and moments of reflection that honoured the lives lost across generations and the impact felt by communities to this day.

Cllr Jason Jackson, Mayor of Islington, said "It was deeply moving to stand alongside residents of all backgrounds and generations as we honoured those who gave their lives for the freedoms we cherish.

"It is a time to reflect not only on the sacrifices of the past, but on the values we carry forward - unity, fairness, and hope. I want to thank everyone who joined us in marking this significant and solemn day."

A representative from Islington Veterans Association (IVA), said "Remembrance carries different meanings for every veteran - whether one served four years or more than twenty years.

"It is a solemn time for reflection, remembering those comrades who are no longer with us and acknowledging the enduring sacrifices of their families."
